WAITING TO EXHALE :: Here at TheGGN we love the ease and flow hot yoga brings to our lives; more so when there’s even a “Hmmm….'”takeaway included. We sweat and stretch at IAmYoga in Toronto (SPM’s HQ), where recently owner Linda Malone, instructing a 6:30 a.m. flow class, shared information worth passing on.

“Way too often these days our bodies respond to low level stress like it’s high level. There’s a big difference between receiving an unpleasant email and having to suddenly jump out of the way of a speeding vehicle, but most times we treat the former like the latter.”

The result is a body that, in acting like it’s always dealing with high level stress, takes energy away from key functions like digestion; even you immune system can suffer. Hardly worth it for problems you won’t remember in six months. The cure, of course: breathing. Breathing deeply, breathing all day with some awareness (put up your hand if you’re a shallow breather), and just flat out stopping to chill and breathe.

Try it the next time your boss or partner shoots you a note that ruffles your feathers and watch what happens. Namaste.
