This ebullient young artist is blowing up. American Idol fans will recognize her, she placed 3rd Season 14. Now, her new single, ‘Victoria’s Secret‘ has everyone listening – and talking. About body dysmorphia. Body shaming. And the need to conform to the messages we’re given (by the likes of the infamous panty retailer) about how we should look.
Her name is Jax, and while she was in Toronto playing the The Dreamer Day Fest earlier this week, I got a chance to sit down and talk with her about the kinds of body image issues she’s faced – ones many queer people also understand all too well. (Show me another photoshopped, oiled-up, gym bod and tell me that’s the ideal gay man and I’ll throw something.)
