It's all about mind over matter. If you have the urge to do something you REALLY want to do, you make it happen.
I can relate, but my experience was more of a long range goal.
In 2011, I finished all the education I was doing, and decided to pick up and move provinces. My goal was in the making in 2009, when I took 2 years to finish a 1 year certification. I then picked up my life the day of my final exam, packed everything I was physically able to muster in 5 pieces of luggage, and bussed to the airport. I boarded my flight, and I was off to Toronto. I've been back for a wedding the same September, and Christmas.
Do I look back and ponder my decision? Of course! Do I regret it? Nope! It was the wisest move I ever made in my life!
It also plays on circumstances in ones life. It wasn't that my life was unbearable, but rather, stagnant. My future wasn't where I was brought up and living, it was elsewhere.
Decisions require planning, and along with weighing out pro's and con's.

So glad you got to go to NYC, I'll be back there as well, when the timing is right.
