Madonna has had an amazing career based on her ballads alone, but they always seem to go unnoticed in the big picture of things. That is, until this year when “Masterpiece,” a song she co-wrote for her movie W.E won Best Song at the Golden Globes.

Today, the official Madonna YouTube page released a one-minute snippet of “Falling Free” – one of the few ballads on MDNA.
It is a string-laden journey of beautiful lyrics, mixing the simplicity of “Live To Tell” and “Love Don’t Live Here Anymore,” with a sultry reminder of “I Want You”. The longing in her voice and the evidence of loss in the mood of the song is bone-chilling.
