EMPOWERMENT :: What is the best thing that can happen to you? I pondered this when I read a #ThoughtRevolution post by GGN publisher Shaun Proulx called “Nothing Is The Worst Thing That Can Happen To You.” I thought to myself how true his argument is, but then I got to asking myself, if nothing is the worst thing that can happen to you (the way Shaun sees it), could nothing also be the best thing?
Imagine: The best thing that can happen to you today is nothing.
Nothing.
No one called today.
No one texted today.
No email was received from someone you actually know today.
No snail mail addressed to you arrived in your mailbox today.
You went to work and it was a non-eventful day.
You caught the bus on time and got a seat.
You prepared you dinner without burning it and simply enjoyed it.
You watched your favourite TV show(s).
Yet, you thought to yourself what a boring day!
I’m here to tell you it wasn’t boring, because nothing happened. Just because – in the nothing – you didn’t feel stress, anxiety, worry, doubt, anger, eagerness or frustration.
Nothing is great!
We live in a world where we are expected, even trained, to feel whatever happens with a sense of urgency, or stress. Hyper reality is part of our day-to-day lives, lots going on is often received as a negative.
Today nothing happened, and it was a positive.
The best thing that can happen is nothing. This is happiness.
Life isn’t about making the most money, showing off the latest make-up or fashion trends, owning the black credit card, buying the 2016 Louis Vuitton Cabaret Open Toe Pumps for $1,950.00, taking an Explorer Uber to make your purchase.
Nothing is happiness.
You’re an educated person and you have read, watched, or heard about third-world countries and how they live on next to nothing compared to us. How they are happy (happier?) being with their families, living day-to-day, doing, working to live, not living to work.
Nothing is the best thing that can happen to you.
Stop!
Slow down.
Enjoy the nothing that may be part of your day because nothing days are the most enjoyable days you will have.
Take pleasure in nothing by watching this simple, gorgeous video for Moby’s “My Weakness” shot in northeast Italy:
I LOVE Miss Raquel!
She’s so right the best thing that can happen is nothing! And here I thought a boring day was not a happening day.
